A prayer to summon God's kingdom and power and glory

This post is part of my lenten series: 40 prayers for Russia's orphans.  Won't you join us in lifting up some of the most vulnerable children in our world today?

Day 20: For yours is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory. Forever. Amen.

God of all power and glory.

Tonight we pray together to ask you for your kingdom. We pray again what we've already asked: that your kingdom would come.

All the power in the world belongs to you, God. Again we pray that you would use that power to make your kingdom come. In your kingdom, every child has a family and a home. In your kingdom, poverty, loneliness, and desperation disappear. In your kingdom we find perfect peace.

How we long for your kingdom, Lord. For us and for every orphan in Russia. Until you come again to usher in that kingdom and all its fullness, give us all little tastes.  As a new day begins in Russia, give each orphan a taste of the rich love we find in you. Reveal yourself to each child whether she's a tiny infant in a crib or a teenager worrying about what tomorrow will bring. In the way each child needs it most, please provide a warm sense of your presence and love. Give them confidence in your power: to save, to provide, and to guide them through this life.

We remember that when you provide, it is not just for provision itself. It is for your glory. As St. Irenaeus said so beautifully, "The glory of God is man, fully alive." Make us come alive: Russia's orphans and we who are praying alike. Give those children what they need to flourish and grow for your glory. Use our lives to make it happen, for your glory. Provide us all with food, shelter, education, families, love, relationships, and work for your glory. Bring us together in your spirit to worship you, this day.

We look forward to the day when we worship together for eternity, in your kingdom.

As we work to obey you and care for orphans in their distress, we rest in the knowledge that yours is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory.

Forever.

Amen
