This post is part of my lenten series: 40 prayers for Russia's
orphans. Won't you join us in lifting up some of the most vulnerable
children in our world today?
Day 19: but deliver us from evil
God our savior,
"Deliver us!" Isn't that the prayer we hear Russia's orphans crying? Isn't that the thing we want for them? Deliverance?
Tonight we come before you, humbly as we know how, to ask you for this great gift of deliverance. Though we have certainly asked it many times for ourselves, tonight we pray on behalf of every child in Russia who lives without a family.
Deliver them.
From solitude.
From loneliness.
From alone-ness.
Deliver them.
From hunger.
From thirst.
From malnutrition.
Deliver them.
From shivering at night.
From rocking their heads to sleep.
From sucking their thumbs raw.
Deliver them.
From fear.
From vulnerability.
From shame.
Deliver them.
From uncertainty.
From change.
From instability.
Deliver them.
From rejection.
From devastation.
From unanswered prayers.
Deliver them.
From monotony.
From days without an embrace.
From the emptiness of not knowing you.
Deliver them.
Hear our prayers, O saving God. Deliver these children this day, we pray.
And use us to do you will, accordingly. Thank you for hearing our prayers.
Amen.
