A prayer for daily bread

This post is part of my lenten series: 40 prayers for Russia's orphans.  Won't you join us in lifting up some of the most vulnerable children in our world today?

Day 14: Give us this day our daily bread

God of all things, even the small,

Today we come before you to pray for orphaned children again and we ask specifically for daily bread. While you ordain each moment of lives before they come to pass, you have created us to live only one moment at a time. We do not know what tomorrow will bring, or even the next day or hour. So while we pray for big answers to our prayers, we also pray for daily bread. For enough grace, enough shelter, enough food, enough love, enough purpose to live the day set before.

This is what we pray for every orphaned child in Russia: that you will provide for their daily needs, one day at a time. May your daily provision serve as a divine sign to these children, pointing to your love and care for them.

While many children live in good baby homes, too many do not. Too many go to bed hungry. Too many languish in cribs. Too many fail to thrive. Too many suck their thumbs raw. Too many are silent because no one has taught them to speak.

Daily bread, Lord. Give them enough each day to build one day on top of the next until they've been given a rich and meaningful life. Give them each day, daily bread. Do not let one day pass without it. Meet their needs, we pray.

With sincere conviction, knowing you are able to do all these things we pray, humbly and boldly.

We love you. Use us as you wish to make these things come to pass.

Amen.
