My own child

My Own Child
author unknown

I did not plant you, true

but when the season is done
when the alternate prayers for sun and rain are counted
when the pain of weeding and the pride of watching are through

I will hold you high
a shining leaf above a thousand seeds grown wild

Not my planting
but by heaven, my harvest.

  1. Absolutely beautiful.

I kept thinking how wonderful these pictures will be for him when he's older. I think the last picture should be framed as it evoke a lot of thought and reflection.

You 3 look wonderful together. A beautiful family.

  2. Love your post. So happy for you, Arie and your husband =) Even though I don't know you, I'm sure you guys will be great parents for Arie who seems like such a sweet lovable boy. Reading your blog gives me hope that one day, hubs and I will too become parents, either biologically or though adoption.

  4. Oh my goodness. I have been silently bawling reading your story of how Arie has come home to you! (I found you via a pinterest link - http://pinterest.com/pin/122089839869923139/ - of all places!)

Oh my, I'm not an adoptive mom nor a birth mom of an adopted child, I'm a grieving mom, mourning and remembering and honoring my two children who died unexpectedly. (Our daughter who died in the womb without any discernible cause and was born at 17wks, [her 4th birthday was yesterday Nov. 24]. Our son died as a result of an unexpectedly quick and complicated birth. He died in my arms at 4 days 2 hours old.)

I cannot tell you how much your story has moved me. I'm not in any place to be an adoptive parent (it just isn't for my husband and I, we've discussed it) but wow. Trials and tribulations all in the name of loving our children! Arie is gorgeous, the pictures you've posted, precious. I am SO SO SO SO SO glad you're finally a momma with babe in arms! That miraculous moment when you get to hold your child for the first time and you realize that "this must be what my parents experienced, holding me for the first time". I'm definitely adding you to my blogs to read and pray for. Bless you in this new season!

    1. Whether we are mothers by birth or adoption we share so many of the same steps in our journeys don't we? I am so grieved to hear of your losses and humbled to know that our story means something to you. Thank you so much for your encouraging words and for sharing a bit of your story! You will be on my heart and in my prayers tonight.

I am so moved by your story. And I am mesmerized by the photos of your little boy. I am of Russian descent. I was just looking at a photo of my 82 year old grandmother from when she was Arie's age. Their eyes are so similar. Especially in that last photo. Thank you also for sharing that poem. I will continue to follow your journey. Tate you so much for sharing it with us.
